So we started our story around GAB 96. At this time we didn't realize that Bash at the Beach came after that PPV. Since there was no 6 man or 2 on 3 tags in WCW vs nWo World Tour, we couldn't do the Outsiders vs Team WCW nor Jacknife Bischoff through a table.
So at the start of this show, Sting, Macho Man and Lex Luger are talking about what they were concerned about. Hulk Hogan! He had such a shitty attitude as of late, Calling the fans Stupid Jackass Fans, telling them to shutup during an interview with Mean Gene Okerlund on an episode of Monday Nitro, saying that "all of this is going to change". So the matches for Great American Bash 96 were set as:
1. Main Event: The Giant vs Ric Flair (c) for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
2. Tag Team Championship: Sting and Lex Luger (c) vs The Steiner Brothers
3. Wrath vs Glacier
4. Diamond Dallas Page vs Lord Steven Regal
5. WCW World Television Championship Chris Benoit vs Ultimo Dragon (c)
6. WCW Crusierweight Championship: Eddie Guerrero (c) vs Dean Malenko
Pretty simple matchcard right? well in Ambrose gif expression: NOPE!
On this saturday night you had Syxx vs Mysterio, he tried to rip the mask off Mysterio and succeeded..
Lex Luger had a match with Scott Steiner, and as Luger was signaling for the Torture rack, none other than Sting showed up and attacked luger, or so we thought. It turns out it was a fake sting. All the commentators knew it was a fake but luger was so sure it was the real sting.
Post match, Lee Marshall tries to calm Luger down by informing him it was a fake but he's still so adament that it was the real sting and pretty much declares war on him.
Next was a grudge match between Ric Flair and Macho Man, pretty straight forward with Macho picking up the win after 2 Diving Elbow drops.
Then came Hogan.
The Match was Hogan vs Lord Stephen Regal. Hogan beat the holy crap out of Regal, at the end Regal was busted open and demanded that Ring announcer Dave Penzer announced his name as the Hulkster.
Then the main event: Sting vs Rick Steiner. Now remember it WAS NOT Sting that attacked Luger, but Luger thought it was and retaliated. He put Sting in the Torture rack, Steiner hit him with the Canadian Backbreaker for the Win.
And that is how Everything Set up Great American Bash 96.
